The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!
We had another successful
Paws for Reading program last night. I just love the books that the kids choose to read to the dogs. One little girl's mother said she agonized over picking out the books until she decided just to bring a couple of books about chickens (because dogs like chickens.)
Mo Willems fans will be delighted to see this picture of Fiona (age 7) reading "The Pigeon Wants A Puppy" to yellow lab Summer. I'm not sure how disappointed Summer was to find out at the end that the pigeon is kind of scared of dogs and would rather have... something else. (No, I won't tell you what it is. You'll just have to read the book.)
I can't stress enough what a great program this is, both for kids and for their parents. Our local animal shelter, St. Hubert's, has a group of volunteers who do this kind of thing with their trained therapy dogs. For more information see St. Hubert's
