  VALUING LIBRARIES!
I just came from the HRLC Annual Meeting - it was great!

Thanks to Joanne Roukens for the nice "shout-out" for the HRLC Technology Committee - she said if you want something done get a 'technologist' to do - these people are DO-ERS! :-) Yup, that's us! ;-)

The Strategic Plan for HRLC was shared and voted on by the voting members and several awards were given out. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay for the whole thing - Ellen at HRLC has my raffle ticket though in case I am a winner! ;-) Of course, I'm never a winner!

The new Strategic Plan continues to address what the membership of HRLC needs most as based on surveying and a day-long planning session, that unfortunately I wasn't able to attend but I heard was fantastic! This of course includes assistance in the areas of TECHNOLOGY, MARKETING and PR, DIVERSE PATRONS, and FUNDING! You can see the plan here. I strongly encourage everyone to take at least a glance at it!

Valuing libraries was brought up several times and is, of course, a major theme and push for everyone! Joanne does an excellent presentation on this and will in fact be bringing it to other states in the very near future. Newly elected NJLA President, Michele Reutty of the Oakland Public Library spoke briefly and said her theme would be "Valuing Libraries, Librarians and Library Staff!" :-) YAY!

Norma Blake from the State Library was there and shared some very exciting new things for New Jersey. I could see that the Futures Conference has had a definite impact and influence and I'm really excited about what is being planned!

Speaking of that Futures Conference - there are photos up on flickr and a blog, and you can, of course, read more about it all at Library Garden!
