It's all about the bling here. Move on up into the 21st century! Make your library the happenin' place
for your community. Sure, it's challenging, but you're up to the challenge. So come on --
The Transparent Library
You might be interested in Michael Casey & Michael Stephens' April 1, 2007 article in
Library Journal, entitled
The Transparent Library. In the article, the Michaels discuss the importance of transparency in library operations. Briefly, they state that "the transparent library contains three key elements: open communication, adapting to change, and scanning the horizon."
I believe these three elements can be tied directly to the four habits of highly effective librarians in Gilman's
Chronicle article, which I just finished blogging about:
openness,
responsiveness,
collaboration and
communication. (I'd combine collaboration and communication into the
open communication element. Responsiveness is similar to
adapting to change, and openness includes
scanning the horizon.
