It's all about the bling here. Move on up into the 21st century! Make your library the happenin' place
for your community. Sure, it's challenging, but you're up to the challenge. So come on --
pimp your library!
Interesting segment about libraries on a recent NewsHour program
The segment was very positive about libraries. It reports on recent findings from the Pew Internet and American Life Project which indicate that contrary to popular belief, people STILL use libraries quite a lot.
This reminds me a little bit of that scene in Monty Python's The Holy Grail. "We're not dead yet! We don't want to go on the cart!"
Borrowed Time?
In the photo essay, they refer to Ross Dawson's
Extinction Timeline, which says that libraries will be extinct by 2019.
But given how the libraries featured in this photo essay have changed and morphed to meet the needs of an increasingly wired public, I think we might be around for a little longer than 10 years from now. We just have to be willing to change our mission and our viewpoint to encompass the new ways people want to use us, as well as the old ways.
